Commercial Manager

About the role

Established in 1969, Walker Group has grown to become a recognised and respected brand and family builder within the Central Belt of Scotland, priding itself on great design, exceptional quality and outstanding customer service, primarily targeting the two-to-five bedroom private home market, on developments of typically 50 to 200 homes.

After its acquisition in 2019 by Springfield Properties PLC, Walker Group has been integrated into the Springfield business, whilst retaining it brand position and positioning in the market. The parent Group, Springfield Properties is one of Scotland’s fastest growing and acquisitive housebuilders, and provides a range of affordable and private housing.

The Walker Group’s business, brand and culture are an excellent fit with Springfield. Both companies strongly promote an ethos of looking after customers and building quality homes. Walker Group follows a similar strategy to Springfield where it uses its respected position in the local land market to secure sites and utilises its extensive in-house skills and experience to bring future development schemes through the planning system efficiently.

Their sites are in desirable locations within the Edinburgh commuter belt, therefore expanding the Group’s land bank and sales presence in this popular, high-growth area.

The Opportunity

Due to internal promotion, a new Commercial Manager is now sought to provide leadership to the commercial function and work with the Walker Group Board to drive value across the business and to the bottom line.

This is a fantastic opportunity for an experienced commercial leader to join a business going through a significant period of change and play a key role in its growth strategy.

Key Responsibilities – At A Glance:

  • The daily management of all development commercial activity
  • The management and development of a team of surveyors and assistants to deliver a project surveying capability long term
  • The development of commercial control systems and processes
  • Monthly CVR reporting to the board
  • The management of all subcontract procurement and management
  • The preparation and communication of commercial management and board reports

The successful candidate will be an experienced commercial leader with previous experience in the housebuilding industry. They will bring gravitas, credibility and presence to the business, with a proactive approach to commercial improvement and development.
