Director of Marketing & Development

About the role

The Dollywood Foundation, founded by Dolly Parton (born January 19, 1946), an American singer, songwriter, instrumentalist, record producer, actress, author, and businesswoman, began in Pigeon Forge, Tennessee. Shortly after the opening of the Dollywood Theme Park in 1986, the Dollywood Foundation was created in April 1988, and began by offering scholarships to local high school students. From there it grew into the Imagination Library, started in 1995, which distributes free books to children monthly, up until the age of 5.

Dolly Parton’s Imagination Library is a book gifting program that mails free, high-quality books to children from birth until they begin school, no matter their family’s income.

After launching in 1995, the program grew quickly. First books were only distributed to children living in Sevier County, Tennessee where Dolly grew up. It became such a success that in 2000 a national replication effort was underway. By 2003, Dolly Parton’s Imagination Library had mailed one million books. It would prove to be the first of many millions of books sent to children around the world.

Today, Dolly Parton’s Imagination Library partners with 1,745 organizations serving 9,300 communities to gift books each month to over 1.3 million children across the U.S., Canada, the U.K. and Australia. Continuing robust expansion is the primary objective for Dolly Parton’s Imagination Library. While currently reaching over 6.5% of all U.S. children with the gift of an age appropriate book each month, the Foundation aims to reach 10% by 2024 with similar goals in other countries.

The Director of Marketing and Development is a talented marketing professional equipped with business acumen to create and deliver long-tern, high value relationships for the foundation. This position leads the effort to create, align and implement global marketing and research initiatives, as well as developing unique business opportunities, to drive positive program awareness, strengthen program and brand reputation and deliver the 10-year growth goals of the foundation.
