About the role

The Organisation

Dundee Rep and Scottish Dance Theatre Limited is one legal organisation which comprises two artistic companies:  Scottish Dance Theatre and Dundee Rep Theatre.  Both artistic companies have Artistic Directors, with the Artistic Director of Dundee Rep Theatre also being Joint CEO.  Both artistic companies are based out of Dundee Rep and sit at the cultural heart of Scotland and the City of Dundee. Founded in 1939, the Rep building is a centre of creative energy, a space for engagement with a wide range of art forms, whilst also playing a lead role in arts education and engagement across the city and beyond. Proud of its Scottish roots, the organisation looks outwards, producing dance and theatre of national and international significance, for and with a diverse audience.

Alongside the two artistic companies, the organisation comprises Rep Engage, Scottish Dance Theatre Creative Learning, a trading arm and support departments such as Operations and Finance.

The organisation is proud to have a model which is unique with an award-winning contemporary dance company and permanent acting ensemble, both of which tour nationally and internationally.

At the heart of the Dundee Rep and Scottish Dance Theatre Limited’s vision is the belief that artistic and creative experience of the highest quality should be open and available to all. The organisation seeks to share a diverse programme of theatre and dance across Dundee and beyond by taking its work out of the theatre and into the wider geographical and cultural world.

Dundee Rep and Scottish Dance Theatre Limited is core funded by Creative Scotland and Dundee City Council.

 

Job Purpose

To work closely with Dundee Rep Artistic Director/ Joint CEO to achieve the organisation’s vision and deliver on its plans and commitments.  The Joint CEOs will provide overall strategic leadership to the management and staff and are accountable for the organisations overall success.

The Executive Director/Joint CEO will provide leadership for the development of the business model and plans of the organisation ensuring effective policies and decision making as well as developing and maintaining strong partnerships and to attract key investors and stakeholders.

 

Person Specification

  • Significant experience (at least 5 years) of performing arts senior management.
  • A genuine flair for working collaboratively with artists and other stakeholders to make things happen.
  • Strategic, with a high level of articulacy, communication skills and political sensitivity.
  • A passion for the performing arts sector.
  • Evidence of a strong track record of effective financial management.
  • Skilled team manager with a good knowledge of HR and employment practice.
  • Experience of and demonstrable success in significant fundraising.
