General Manager, Manufacturing Operations, Scotland

Reporting to the Director of Manufacturing Operations, this role has responsibility for all Scottish manufacturing operations which consists of 5 distilleries, several maturation sites in Central Scotland, and the processing and bottling facility in Glasgow where the General Manager will be based.

The General Manager of Scottish Operations has overall leadership accountability for distillation, maturation and bottling operations for Scotch Whisky. This role will also act as the figurehead at our Springburn site where several non-Manufacturing functions are located.

This role will:

  • Develop and execute the medium and long-term growth ambitions for Scotch, through liquid and packaging innovation, extremely high quality, World Class service levels and competitive cost structures
  • Take full accountability for the P&L and Balance Sheet for Scottish manufacturing operations, tracking variances and trends. Champion a culture of transparent reporting & decision-making
  • Be responsible for developing and executing the agreed strategies for safety, quality, environmental sustainability, manufacturing, continuous improvement (Lean manufacturing & ISO certifications), engineering, procurement, liquid innovation & commercialisation, planning/logistics and warehousing
  • Lead a team of c.230 people through an established Senior Leadership Team
  • Build ‘best-in-industry’ capability and performance
  • Play a major role in realising the brand ambition by co-building and executing the strategic masterplan (as part of a newly established Brand House, Scotch is an area of strategic growth)

With a strong commercial mindset, financial acumen, and a background in operational excellence (TRACC), the mission of this visionary leader is to play a transformative role in delivering the Scotch Portfolio of Iconic brands, which forms part of a highly strategic brand house for Beam Suntory.

We are looking for candidates with a strong engineering and operations background, an MBA would also be highly desirable.  You should have at least 15 years in manufacturing operations roles preferably within, but not limited to, the alcoholic beverages industry or FMCG.
