General Manager – Scotland

About the role

Our client is a leading supplier of specialist industrial machinery. The UK business has a turnover fast-approaching £150m and is investing in acquisitive growth with a target of doubling turnover in the next three years.

The General Manager in Scotland will report to the Group Chief Executive, replacing the current incumbent who is moving into a new role in the group. The intention is to have a handover period as the new GM learns the business, meets the customers and builds the crucial relationships and understanding that they will need to be successful. Given the nature of the sector, the successful candidate will need to be able to adapt to the sales-led, technical and often challenging environment. They will need to be agile across the different functions to be able to support the sales team as well as the engineers and will be able to motivate from the ground level, as well as being a leader. Externally, they will need to be robust enough to build mutually beneficial relationships with clients, and possess the gravitas and confidence required to do this.

The new GM will help to bring more process and structure to the business as it grows. They will lead a recently acquired business unit and drive its growth across the whole UK. The Scottish business may make further acquisitions and so we are seeking a GM who has the potential to do a lot more and run a larger and more complex business in the future.
