Group Commercial Director

About the role

Our client, Edwin James Holdings, is a leading provider of technical services to major public and private sector clients across the UK. EJH, which is headquartered in Tannochside near Glasgow, was backed by private equity fund Aliter Capital in January 2017 and acts as the holding company for Aliter’s investments in the technical support services sector. Following Aliter’s investment, the business has embarked on a sustained acquisition strategy and, so far, has created a group with combined revenues of circa GBP150 million and approximately 1000 staff. This growth is set to continue with further planned acquisitions in the near future.

Due to this expansion, the business has created the Group Commercial Director position, reporting directly to the CEO. The new Group Commercial Director will act as a business partner to the Group Business Unit MD’s and provide commercial expertise to support business growth. They will also ensure that contracts are cost effective, gross profit is maximised and that risk is minimised across the group.

Key Accountabilities:

  • Key role with acquisition plans, evaluation and integration
  • Lead role across Group in Pipeline analysis and order book management
  • Develop & continuously improve standardised commercial controls & procedures across the business
  • Direction and policy making on cost saving initiatives and develop a supply chain framework
  • Work collaboratively & effectively with other Executive Level colleagues, acting as a Business Partner
  • To ensure that contracts are operated in a cost effective manner, minimising risk to the business & maximising gross profit
  • Monitor and report accurately on progress, contractual risks and associated mitigation
  • Take a lead role in all commercial aspects of the bid or contract negotiation process
  • Manage high levels of contract governance so that commercial risk can be mitigated
  • Bring a different viewpoint on issues, challenging the status quo and encouraging partners to look at things differently
  • To provide commercial innovation to operations and business development
  • Share and implement best practice from previous experience

Key Requirements:

  • Ability to work at an Executive Level within a team structure and to contribute to the success of all businesses within the group
  • Track record in delivering business improvement
  • Supply Chain Management experience
  • Experience in support services, ideally facility management
  • Previous P&L responsibility and track-record of successful delivery
