Within the University and in addition to the excellent Sporting and Academic departments, the Commercial and Accommodation Services Directorate at the University of Stirling operates under the banner of Stirling Venues. It provides a unique range of student accommodation, business events management and holiday services using the University of Stirling’s extensive 330-acre property portfolio.

Set in stunning grounds at the foot of the Ochil Hills and beneath the gaze of the Wallace Monument, Stirling Venues is the largest single-site provider of conference, events and accommodation facilities in Scotland and, not including student accommodation income, has generated more than £14.5 million in revenue since a refocus of activity in 2014. It also manages the on-campus Stirling Court Hotel.

 Role Outline

Reporting to the Director of Finance and working as part of the Finance Office senior team, the University is currently recruiting a Head of Commercial and Management Accounting to partner both of these two crucial departments (Commercial and Sports).

The successful individual will be recruited on an initial two-year contract to undertake the following:

  • Provide leadership, strategic direction and day to day management of the management accounting function to ensure high quality delivery of outputs;
  • Ensure effective delivery of high quality services in particular to the Directors of Commercial Services (includes estates, IT and University services) and Sports respectively;
  • Lead and manage the staff within the Management Accounting and Commercial Services Financial Support Team; and
  • Support the Director of Finance as required in delivery of the University’s financial strategy and take the lead in allocated areas of the wider finance function.

Duties

To provide highly specialist professional expertise and focused strategic leadership for a portfolio of finance activities institution wide – this portfolio may change from time to time but in the first instance will include management accounting and commercial accounting.

To take the lead for the delivery of the University’s management accounting function.  Reporting financial performance to budget holders, the Senior Management Team, Service Directors and the University Committees with responsibility for financial monitoring.

Lead the finance business partner service provided to the Directors of Commercial Services and Sports with responsibility for Commercial and Accommodation Services including Stirling Court Hotel and the University’s Sports Facilities.

To manage pro-actively staff within the section, ensuring adherence to HR processes, creating and maintaining team spirit, motivating and developing team members and otherwise encouraging or mentoring staff to help them reach their full potential.

To be the business lead on the development of month-end business processes so as to ensure that the finance systems and processes are automated and made more efficient so as to ensure that reporting is delivered accurately and timeously.
