Non Executive Director & Trustee with Responsibility for Finance

About the role

Spartans Community Football Academy (SCFA) is looking to recruit a new Trustee with responsibility for Finance to join the Board. The Board provides strategic oversight of the charity and works closely with the Chief Executive and the Business Operations Manager in delivery of the charity objectives.

Spartans Community Football Academy was established in 2006 as a company limited by guarantee and a registered charity. Each Trustee of the charity is a Director and Board Member of the company.

The Scottish government has developed a small area geography to measure deprivation called data zones. Each data zone in Scotland averages about 750 people and North Edinburgh has 36 data zones. 17 of these data zones are in the most deprived 20% for Scotland. Some of the associated issues resulting from multiple deprivation are higher levels of unemployment, lower incomes (over 30% of local children qualify for free school meals) and lower than average educational attainment.

Spartans Community Football Academy is mindful of the challenges facing many young people and their families in the local area and so have been working with the local community and our partners to deliver programmes and initiatives that have a lasting positive social impact in North Edinburgh.

We operate our facilities and community coaching programmes as a social enterprise, reinvesting profits back into the business to support our positive social impact in the community. Our youth and children’s provisions are always free to the young people who attend. This helps remove barriers to participation and the associated stigma of being unable to access leisure and social activities.

The impact of our work has been independently evaluated using SROI on separate occasions, on average for every £1 invested in our project we deliver >£6 of social dividend.
