The launch of the new centre was marked with an Inaugural Conference on Friday 28th October 2016 chaired by Susan Deacon, Assistant Principal External Relations, The University of Edinburgh and Chair of IOD Scotland.

The contributors were:

  • Christian Gronroos, Emeritus Professor of Service and Relationship Marketing, Hanken School of Economics
  • Scott Black, Managing Director, FWB Park Brown
  • Wendy Loretto, Dean, University of Edinburgh Business School
  • Stephen Osborne, Director of the Centre for Service Excellence
  • Sandy Finlayson, Senior Partner, MBM Commercial
  • Alexander Holt, Digital Directorate of the Scottish Government
  • Colin Mair, Director, Scottish Improvement Service
  • Isabella Miller, General Manager, John Lewis (Glasgow)

Commenting on the conference, Scott said “firstly it was great to be asked to participate…although it was a bit daunting to follow Professor Christian Gronroos onto the stage given his globally recognised contribution to the understanding of service and relationship marketing. The Centre is an important addition to the business schools portfolio and has a very ambitious and exciting programme. It has an important role to play in developing our understanding of service.”
