FWB Park Brown were delighted to host the Scottish HR Leadership Group Spring Masterclass ‘The Will to Win’, an evening with Eilidh Doyle (Olympic Bronze Medallist and British Track and Field Athlete) and Graeme Jack who chairs Athletics Trust Scotland (ATS), a newly created charity established to support and develop athletics in Scotland.

A massive thank you to our hub hosts, led by Heineken in Edinburgh, Arnold Clark/GTG in Glasgow, and EnQuest in Aberdeen.

The evening commenced with Eilidh giving us a remarkable insight into the world of professional sport, sharing her inspiring journey while embracing the highs and overcoming the challenging lows.

Eilidh shared her experience of competing at the iconic London 2012 Olympic Games, from sharing an apartment with Jessica Ennis, bumping into Sir Chris Hoy on the stairwell and meeting members of the Royal Family all in the space of 30 minutes from arriving. She bravely shared her feelings of ‘imposter syndrome’ as the crowds erupted with support. Following London 2012, Eilidh began her commitment to working with a psychologist and started to focus on implementing mental wellbeing alongside her physical training to achieve the best possible results.

Come the 2014 Commonwealth Games and this time Eilidh was the ‘poster girl’, chosen to captain Scotland in the home crowd in Glasgow. Eilidh won the silver medal for her signature event, the 400m hurdles – a monumental and unforgettable achievement which she embraced every second of.

It is not purely the physical aspect, but the psychological mindset behind managing your well-being and happiness. A truly inspirational journey which has inspired us all to think about how we can implement this positive and ‘can do’ attitude into our own personal and professional lives. Eilidh reminded us the importance of being kind to ourselves, taking breaks when we need to and knowing when to push for great success. By recognising this and implementing it as a core foundation of the culture, whether that be in the office or in the world of professional sport can enhance productivity, job satisfaction and overall wellbeing.

Following this journey, Eilidh now works closely with ATS and Graeme to create awareness and encourage communities across Scotland to get involved with sports themselves. A fantastic initiative which aims to transform lives by enabling communities across the country to be able to access athletics and running. They provide support to those in the sport who are in need, for reasons of age, ill-health, disability, financial hardship or other disadvantage.
