FWB Park Brown Co-host experiential dinner and discussion at the Miele Experience Centre, Edinburgh

  • FWB News

Miele’s Edinburgh Experience Centre provided an excellent venue to host an intimate roundtable of Branded and Family Owned businesses to discuss the critical activity of succession planning in an increasingly difficult market and posed the question – is this the end of the linear job path?

The discussion was led by John Pickering, MD of GB, Ireland and South Africa who shared the Miele story and business context behind its recent investment in Scotland during the pandemic and how well the business has performed.

John led us into a candid and open discussion on the Miele brand story, starting with their ‘Immer Besser’ brand promise meaning ‘forever better’ which they weave into everything that they do.

Miele continues to grow, both in the UK & Ireland and globally and is working hard to secure new, top talent whilst considering succession planning. Rosie Cook, HR Director for Miele – UK, Ireland and South Africa shared some of the activities that they have undertaken to support broad development paths for their people and their teams in the region.

Whilst the discussion was underway, we were shown the variety of technology and household appliances that Miele have on offer, sampling some delicious canapes prepared by Chef Cesar Fernandez in their very high spec and advanced steam ovens.

Guests were then treated to a 3 course meal with an introductory video prepared by Squiggly Careers authors Helen Tupper and Sarah Ellis, provoking a healthy discussion around the real challenges that each business is facing around succession, staff retention and investment costs. There was a real sense of connection round the table – with guests sharing their challenges and experiences in this area.

We were extremely pleased to have hosted a fantastic table of guests and can’t thank John and Rosie and the team at the experience centre enough for their time, energy and support.
