We were keen to have two key figures from each sector, so we are thrilled that Norman Murray and Iain Mackay have agreed to speak jointly on these important areas of business for Scotland globally at a crucial time for our economy.

Norman Murray’s earlier career was in the venture capital industry. He co-founded Morgan Grenfell Private Equity Limited and was also a Director of Morgan Grenfell Asset Management Limited. He is currently Chairman of Petrofac plc and a Non-Executive Director of The Edrington Group Ltd. Until June 2011, he was chairman of Cairn Energy plc, having served on that board for 12 years, and was also until recently a non-executive director of Robert Wiseman Dairies plc and Greene King plc. Norman is a former chairman of the British Venture Capital Association and a past president of the Institute of Chartered Accountants of Scotland.

Iain was appointed as Group Finance Director of HSBC Holdings plc in December 2010. He initially served as Chief Financial Officer of HSBC North America Holdings Inc, where he was instrumental in the restructuring of HSBC’s consumer finance business. From September 2009 until his appointment to the Board as Group Finance Director, Iain was Chief Financial Officer, Asia-Pacific, of HSBC Holdings plc. Before joining HSBC, he worked for General Electric, latterly as Chief Financial Officer of GE Consumer Finance – Americas, then Chief Financial Officer of GE Healthcare – Global Diagnostic Imaging. Previously he was with Schlumberger Dowell, and also worked for Price Waterhouse in New York and Paris, as well as at Thomson McLintock, KMG in the UK. He holds an MA in Business Studies and Accounting from Aberdeen University.

As usual there will be plenty of time for discussion and debate following our speakers and this promises to be a lively, informative and stimulating dinner as in previous years.
