FWB Park Brown advise on the appointment of Director Scotland for Royal College of Nursing

  • Uncategorized

Susan Aitkenhead joined the RCN in January 2021 from her previous role as Deputy Chief Nursing Officer for England.

A registered nurse for 33 years, Susan trained at Glasgow Western and Glasgow South Colleges of Nursing. One of Scotland’s first Consultant Nurses, Susan has had a diverse nursing career in clinical and professional leadership roles.

Susan has held senior roles in professional regulation with the Nursing and Midwifery Council, has worked at the Department of Health in England, and operationally within a number of health and care providers in the UK, New Zealand and Australia. This led to her being appointed Director of Nursing for NHS England and in 2019 she took up the post of Deputy Chief Nursing Officer with responsibility for policy and system transformation.

Commenting on the appointment, Ailsa Sutherland of FWB PB said “we were delighted to work with RCN on this important appointment.  Making the appointment during the Covid-19 pandemic was both challenging and fascinating, at a time when the RCN is under great pressure to continue the great work it does to protect its members.”
