About the role

We are looking to appoint a Chair of Edinburgh Tourism Action Group (ETAG) to build on the success of its activities over the last 10 years. This is a key appointment in one of Edinburgh’s and Scotland’s most important economic sectors.

ETAG is the organisation responsible for bringing together the wide range of businesses that makes up Edinburgh’s tourism sector.  It fulfils a unique and critical role in bringing the industry and stakeholders together with the public sector agencies who support Scotland’s tourism product.

The board of ETAG is a dynamic group consisting of representatives from the major stakeholders, agencies and industry groups who collectively represent Edinburgh tourism sector and meet regularly to discuss the challenges, opportunities and strategic issues for the tourism within the city.  Its role is to encourage and support growth and development in managed way and to ensure that the sector continues to generate prosperity for Edinburgh.

The Chair is responsible for leading the organisation and accordingly candidates will be knowledgeable and experienced within the broad sector.

The specific duties of the Chair are as follows:

  • Chairing meetings of the ETAG Steering Group
  • Chairing meetings of the ETAG Full Group
  • Liaising with the ETAG Team on high level decision making and issues of governance
  • Leading the Board in ensuring proper means of implementation and monitoring performance
  • Representing ETAG in an ambassadorial role

This is a highly visible and dynamic position and requires somebody with real passion and in depth knowledge who will drive change and progress. Ultimately the role is to provide leadership to help ensure that the Edinburgh tourism sector continues to thrive.
