The Non-Executive Development Programme, a JV with FWB Park Brown and The University of Edinburgh Business School launched its second year last week with the first Session of this year’s programme focusing on the Audit Committee. Jann Brown, former Co-CEO Cairn Energy plc and currently Chair of the Audit Committee at John Wood Group plc, led a very informative and interactive discussion outlining the role of the AC, the skills and competencies required to be effective as a Member and/or Chair, key relationships internally and externally, board dynamics and potential challenging situations that may be faced by the Committee. Jann introduced three case studies where groups worked through how they would tackle each situation and shared her knowledge and expertise to help guide the delegates through each scenario in detail.
This programme has been designed to focus on the practical aspects of being a Non-Exec Director/Chair and each session is led by experienced and successful Chairs. The next session is on Thursday 25th October when Ian Marchant, Chair, John Wood Group plc and Thames Water Utilities Ltd, will discuss the crucial relationship between the Chair and the CEO.
