Non-Executive Positions

About the role

The Law Society has a unique role in Scotland. It is a key regulator, setting and enforcing standards for a profession that helps people in need. It supports and cares for its 12000 members and provides a voice that represents them and wider society when it speaks and lobby’s Government on the rule of law, access to justice and human rights. It has very good social purpose. Indeed the Law Society is one of Scotland’s treasures and it now seeks to appoint non-solicitors as Non-Executive Lay Members of its Board, known as The Council. It also seeks to appoint a non-solicitor to its Regulatory Committee, which has a key brief to maintain and enforce standards in the interests of the public and the profession. The Council is very strategic in its outlook and also naturally has a focus on the general well being of the Legal profession and the Law Society itself and historically the Lay Members have carried a strong voice within it. With a brand new CEO in place this is a good time to join!

We are open minded about the sector experience you may have. What is important is that you have experience at an influential level that demonstrates having made a good  impact in what you do, along with a strong collaborative approach and communication skills. This is an excellent opportunity to work with clever and passionate people full of great commitment and pride –  in an important organisation with great purpose.

These are  non-remunerated appointments and would require a commitment of between 8 and 10 days per annum.
