Country Finance Manager (Egypt)

About the role

Headquartered in Edinburgh, UK, Cairn Energy PLC is an independent oil & gas exploration, development and production company. Cairn’s exploration activities have a geographical focus in North West Europe, West Africa and Latin America, underpinned by interests in production assets in the UK North Sea. These activities are supported by offices in London and Mexico City.

In March 2021, Cairn announced, alongside consortium partner Cheiron, the acquisition of a portfolio of interests in Egypt’s Western Desert from Shell. The portfolio offers low cost production, near-term development and exploration potential, provides immediate operating cashflow contribution and adjusts Cairn’s overall hydrocarbon split towards gas.

As a result of this acquisition, Cairn Energy seeks to appoint a Finance Manager to establish, develop and lead the finance function of Capricorn Egypt, a wholly owned subsidiary of Cairn Energy. Based in Cairo, Egypt, the Finance Manager will be a member of the Capricorn Egypt leadership team, collectively accountable for the delivery of business objectives. The appointee will be responsible for providing financial support and guidance to leadership, as well as working closely with the Cheiron finance team to ensure alignment in the quality and timing of information provided for Cairn’s external reporting requirements. In addition, the appointee will act as the Deputy for the Country Manager (Egypt).

Building local talent, establishing a high-performing culture and driving continuous improvement in the Finance function is key to the success of Cairn’s strategic venture in Egypt.

The Finance Manager for Egypt will be a highly credible leader with excellent communication skills, strong commercial acumen and will be degree qualified with an appropriate professional accounting qualification. The successful candidate will have strong experience within the Energy sector and be familiar with joint venture operating partnerships and production sharing contracts. Experience of working within the African continent, ideally with specific exposure or experience of Egypt, would be preferred.
