About the role

There aren’t many job opportunities which involve to setting a strategic direction and leading the delivery and growth of Corporate Services for one of Scotland’s most inspiring charities.

This a unique opportunity will enable you to use your excellent strategic leadership skills, proven business acumen and financial expertise whilst contributing to our work in tackling the causes and consequences of homelessness.

For over 50 years, Cyrenians has tackled the causes and consequences of homelessness. We understand that there are many routes into homelessness, and that there is no ‘one size fits all’ approach to supporting people towards more positive and stable futures. That’s why all our work is values-led and relationships-based.

We meet people where they are and support them towards where they want to be.  In the past year, this has involved supporting 11,000+ people through 57 projects across 7 local authorities and 4 national services.

The Role

The Director of Finance and Corporate Services plays a critical strategic role in the Leadership Team, reporting directly to the Chief Executive, and working in close collaboration with other members of the Leadership Team, Senior and Service Managers, and all staff within their function.

This is an existing role with the current Director of Finance and Corporate Services due to retire at the end of 2022 after completing the handover with the successful candidate.

They will support the charity’s work by delivering on the strategic plan, managing strategic risk, developing financial strategy and plans, and seeking new opportunities and innovations. By driving high-performing and cost-efficient practices across both finance and corporate services, this enables us to focus our energy and resources on delivering quality support and driving forward our ambition of a more inclusive society.

The Director of Finance and Corporate Services role is best suited to an innovative, forward-thinking, and collaborative individual. The successful candidate will be high performing and driven with a strategic mindset to address opportunities, such as maximising the organisation’s digital presence and managing growing commercial interests.

 

Support

Our new director will be welcomed by our outgoing Director of Finance and Corporate Services, who will ensure a comprehensive handover.

The post is also supported by an enthusiastic, knowledgeable team of staff, and will join a multi-faceted leadership team, with particular expertise in our services and social enterprise.  This is led by your new line manager, Ewan Aitken, who is one of the third sector’s most-respected CEOs in Ewan Aitken.  You’ll also have access to wider Cyrenians support, including our learning and development programme, and staff wellbeing services.

Experience Required

The successful candidate will bring experience in Strategic Leadership across a combination of the following areas:

  • Strategic risk management
  • Strategic financial management
  • Human resource management
  • Governance
  • IT
  • Compliance: legal, statutory, regulatory
  • Facilities management

The Director of Finance and Corporate Services will be able to assimilate and analyse information quickly and accurately and think strategically, formulate decisions and make recommendations. They will hold an accountancy qualification and the ability to use a recognised computerised accounting package.  As this post leads on Cyrenians’ digital services, they will also understand the strategic importance of IT to the delivery of an organisation’s success.

The successful candidate’s strong business acumen and commercial judgment will be complemented by a high degree of self-awareness, alongside excellent written and interpersonal skills.  This will lead them to be adept at leading positive change and optimising their impact at all levels.
