Student Loans Company is a non-profit making Government-owned organisation to provide loans and grants to students in universities and colleges in the UK. Since 1989, we have enabled our customers to invest in their futures by delivering secure, accurate and efficient assessment, payment and repayment services.

SLC have an exciting opportunity for an Executive Director of Operations to join our senior leadership team. Reporting to the CEO, the Executive Director of Operations will be responsible for driving and delivering the strategy and performance of our Operations Directorate through the effective leadership of the senior management team. The postholder will oversee the efficient day to day operation of the Directorate, ensuring that appropriate operational plans, decision-making structures and delegated authorities are fully in place to deliver business objectives, and in so doing, provide excellent value for money.

Effective stakeholder management is key to this role as the Executive Director of CDR will be responsible for maintaining strong working relationships with Government stakeholders including the Department for Education, HMRC, HM Treasury, Office for Students, Integrated Payment Authority and other relevant bodies. In addition, the successful candidate will be responsible for the continued transformation of the Operations Directorate and the service provided to students, through effective and innovative digital solutions, continuous improvement and cultural change.

SLC offer a Blend working model which will typically be 2 days in the office and 3 days from home.

What you bring:

  • Significant senior leadership experience of running scale and complex operations that have a high degree of rules-based processing within tight budgetary and timescale constraints.
  • Track record of successful high-volume operational delivery within a customer-centric environment and a focus on strategic outcomes.
  • Practical and proven experience of delivering major technology-dependent transformation and operational change in an organisation of similar scale.
  • Broad and demonstrable experience of strategic, financial and business planning whilst leading the strategic and day to day business of operational teams.
  • A people-centric approach to leadership with a focus on meeting ogranisational Equality and Diversity agenda.
  • Exceptional leadership skills with the ability to engage, influence and collaborate with stakeholders both internally and externally.
