This opportunity has now been filled

Group Finance Director

About the role

M&Co has been a remarkable “family business” success story, experiencing continued growth since its foundation in the 1950s.  It is now one of the UK’s largest privately owned fashion retailers, turning over £180m and employing nearly 4,000 people and with almost 300 stores worldwide (including franchises).

The strategy of reinvesting profits into the business has driven sustained growth and the focus on long-term value creation that is typical of a successful family business is clear to see.  This also runs deep into the culture of the business with long staff tenure and high loyalty both up and down the pay grades; evidenced by the business being positioned 17th in the 2015 Sunday Times best large company to work for.  This is also reflected in the customer base with over 2 million loyalty card holders.  The business also successfully trades online.  The franchise model, adopted a few years ago, has now been proven via a partner relationship in the Middle East and elsewhere where M&Co effectively act as the wholesaler.

The Group Finance Director will sit on the Group and Trading Boards and work closely with the CEO and Executive Chairman.  Candidates must have the capability to be successful in an entrepreneurial and growth environment, with a finance function that continues to reflect the complexities of the business and the scale it develops.

Previous experience in the retail sector would be extremely useful, although this is not an absolute. Experience of working in a family business or similar environment and in a business of scale would also be hugely beneficial.  The key strengths that the new Finance Director will have is a strong track record of helping to deliver growth in an entrepreneurial business and the ability to partner with the CEO and Board to provide challenge and support to enable the business to deliver its strategical aspirations.  Experience of working in an owner managed environment, as well as managing external relationships with banks and advisors will be important.

This will represent a long term career move for the ideal candidate and an opportunity to build a strong relationship with a young CEO and to help drive the growth of M&Co over many years.  The role will be based in Inchinnan full time, with some travel in the UK.
