About the role

Having recently secured £2.7million from one of the UKs top Growth Capital Firms, BGF, The Paint Shed are looking to hire an experienced senior e-commerce professional as they scale up their online and wider retail operations.

The BGF funding will be used to expand the firm’s online presence and accelerate the roll-out of five additional stores, with significant growth and new sites planned in both Scotland and England.

Meanwhile, the investment will further grow the company’s online presence and ecommerce capabilities creating an additional 20 jobs over the next 24 months.

The Paint Shed was founded in 1995 and, now Private Equity backed, has grown considerably since then and selling a wide range of branded trade paints and accessories to independent painters and decorators and retail consumers via its ecommerce site as well as through its expanding network of stores.

During lockdown, The Paint Shed quickly adapted to the closure of its stores and focused on driving online sales with the launch of a new click and collect service. The firm also completed work on its newest outlet in Anniesland, which opened in March, alongside its network of other stores.

The Opportunity:

Therefore, we are looking for a Head of Ecommerce to lead The Paint Shed’s online Ecommerce business with full P&L responsibility. This is an ideal role for someone who can grow and develop their existing ecommerce strategy and drive changes to improve the customer journey to help drive growth and provide a market leading customer experience during an online process.

You will be a senior Ecommerce Manager or Head of Ecommerce looking for a leadership role with strong communicating skills with experience working in a customer centric retail environment.

This is an extremely fast paced, energetic environment and as well as coming from a growth focussed digital marketing or E-commerce managerial role, you will also need to be a dynamic, self-starting and well organised individual who is willing to take control of all their own responsibilities. The successful candidate will be both hands-on in the scaling up of the function as well as a strategic thinker, will be innovative and a forward thinker that always has the customer and commercial growth as their main influencers.

The Paint Shed has thousands of products on their website and are seen as disruptors in their industry, leading the charge in online paint retailing. Therefore, in this this role you will have a real opportunity to drive change in both a business as well as a retail category, being innovative and creative in your strategy to achieve this.

You will be analytical and will need to make sure to stay up to date with consumer behaviours and trends, ensuring you are always on top of the most popular products. You will be responsible for the SEO of the site, ensuring everything is visible and easy to navigate. Having previous experience in Google Analytics is a must, and you will need to gather information and data to be able to find anything that could affect how successful the online sales are and the sites performance. You will be driving an ecommerce strategy for the company, covering a broad spectrum of digital marketing including PPC, social, affiliates and email marketing to push consumers towards the site.

You will have experience in working with CRO/UX journeys and be able to challenge and measure any development partner or consultancy firm used to help deliver the results the business is looking for.

Key experience/skill set required:

  • Proactive, driven, ambitious go-getter personality
  • Excellent experience in managing day-to-day ecommerce operations
  • Experience of digital marketing, traffic generation, conversion, and partnering more broadly across wider marketing activity
  • Good knowledge of online eCommerce platforms
  • Content Management System (CMS) experience
  • PPC/Paid Media campaigns; Google Ads, Bing Ads, Facebook, LinkedIn, Twitter
  • SEO/Paid Search Campaigns
  • Desire for input into and ownership of ongoing growth strategy / roadmap
  • SEO and PPC piece will be agency-led
  • Liaising with and directing the development agency
  • Development of Marketplaces role
  • Social media – defining and delivering strategy
  • Email Campaigns
  • Work with 3rd party agencies to extract the best results
  • Exceptional team building skills, can motivate and drive peers
  • Passion for Digital, continuously seeking new opportunities and at the forefront of the ever-changing digital landscape

This is a permanent, full time role. This role can be remotely based but will need to manage and build a team based in Glasgow.
