About the role

The National Trust for Scotland is a conservation charity that protects and promotes Scotland’s natural and cultural heritage for the present and future generations to enjoy. With over 330,000 member’s, it is the largest conservation charity in Scotland.

We are seeking an outstanding individual to assume the key role of General Manager for the portfolio of properties in the Aberdeenshire and Angus area. These properties consist of some of the largest catering and retail outlets in the Trust, all of which have further development potential. As such increased profitability, aligned to an improved visitor experience will be a key indicator in the success of this role.

The appointee will be a leader, coach and mentor empowering property management teams and staff to carry out day-to day management and constructive interaction with their own stakeholders. This is a highly visible role where, in addition to the general operations management of the properties, the post holder will be responsible for the development and implementation of the properties strategic and operating business planning processes.

Suitable candidates will be inspiring, innovative leaders and influential communicators. Commercially astute and possessing a positive outlook, potential appointees will demonstrate the ability to influence change and motivate the team to deliver a world class visitor experience which informs, entertains and drives growth in visitor numbers and investment.

The General Manager will demonstrate a willingness to challenge historic methodology, for the benefit of improvement of the properties’ financial sustainability and visitor experience. The focus will be on creating a positive and innovative atmosphere which encourages the team to commit themselves to the task in hand and where necessary, go beyond the call of duty in order to achieve their key objectives.

Previous experience and understanding of successfully managing cultural heritage and/or visitor attractions would be advantageous.
