This is an opportunity to join the newly established Oil and Gas Technology Centre (OGTC) that will have a strategic impact on extending the competitive life of the UK Oil and Gas industry. Through the development and deployment of technology solutions, the OGTC will help the drive to maximise economic recovery from the United Kingdom Continental Shelf.
The OGTC is being created as a world class Oil & Gas Technology Centre that will support the Oil and Gas industry in the UK and internationally. Within the OGTC, Solutions Centres are now being set up to deliver the industry’s key technology requirements.
The Well Construction Solution Centre Manager will collaborate closely with the other stakeholder organisations and in particular the Technology Leadership Board, Oil & Gas Operators and Service Companies to deliver the technical agenda for the UKCS.
It is envisaged that the Well Construction Solution Centre, working within the context of the terms of reference set by the Industry, will:
- Assist to identify then appraise the relevance, readiness and accessibility of existing technology in the market place (e.g. universities, service and supply network, oil and gas operators, independent institutions). Once selected, help engage and adapt the technology to deliver solutions solving the challenge of cost efficient Well Construction.
- Assist to identify and appraise the applicability of technologies being deployed in other industrial sectors capable of technology transfer into the upstream oil and gas industry in support of the technology theme solutions.
- Identify specific technology gaps that remain and design & deliver programmes to resolve these gaps. Delivery either internally in OGTC or outsourced to other sources.
Candidates will likely currently be in an upstream oil and gas research / technical or engineering position either with an Oil and Gas Operator, Service Company or an applied research institution. They may be experienced senior technologists or applied Engineers / Engineering Managers with a broad understanding of the engineering challenges in the hostile North Sea. They maybe Technical Authorities (TA) within their current or previous roles and must be able to command the respect of their technical peers. Individuals with varied career experience including, positions in R&D as well as operational “coal face” positions and perhaps staff roles demonstrating breath of experience and versatility will make attractive candidates.
This is a full time, permanent post in the OGTC. Delivery scopes will be multiyear and it is envisaged when a scope is completed the successful Solution Centre Manager will be assigned to lead new solution centres on a rolling programme basis. The role is based in Aberdeen and will require short duration travel trips, both UK and internationally.
