Top Female Board Director Dinner …

  • Uncategorized

FWB Park Brown recently hosted a dinner for female CEOs, Chairs and NXDs from the public and private sectors. Our guest speaker, Fiona MacLeod, formerly SVP BP plc had a very successful international career with the company,  culminating in the role of President, Retail, USA and Latin America. She returned to Scotland in 2010 and from a base here has spent the last few years advising CEOs internationally on delivering commercial risk-based business strategy and transformation, advising, among others, the CEOs of Qantas, Boston Consulting Group, Wood Mackenzie and the Australian Government.

Fiona brought a broad international perspective to our discussion, and talked about her 25 years’ experience leading large scale change across a wide range of cultures and countries.  Despite the diversity of the businesses she has led she was clear that change programmes are more similar than different, as they are fundamentally about leadership and people.

She gave a number of practical examples and stories of business transformation and had synthesised this to her top 5 lessons to share:

i.    Get clear what’s not working and what it will look like when done
ii.    Make the bold (not the easiest) decision and manage the risks
iii.    Engage your extended leadership team and opinion formers
iv.    Set clear targets and monitor them frequently and visibly
v.    Remove the reverse gear by driving a fast pace and rewarding new culture and delivery

A lively and entertaining round table discussion followed this stimulating and thought provoking address.
